Autumn Affairs Await

\"\"Fall is in full swing, and I’m really excited for next week since the kids are out of school and we’ll have a lot of family fun.

Rather than hand-craft a post of genius for you today, I’ve decided to take it easy and start my vacation early work tirelessly to find some hidden gems in my archives for your reading pleasure. If you haven’t read them, they may indeed prove helpful. If you’ve already read them, they’re like an old friend you’ve been missing, or your very favorite book. Exactly like that.

First things first: we are just about at the go / no-go point for deep frying a turkey for Thanksgiving. Completely thawing the bird takes time, and there is no room for error. Deep fried turkey is delicious, but I also highlight that it’s a HUGE help to whoever is preparing the rest of the meal.

If you’re a homeowner, you should have already completed your fall maintenance for your heating system. If you haven’t, or if you’re asking, “What do you mean by ‘fall maintenance’ and ‘heating system’?”, you ought to consider, “What’s the worst that can happen?

When I had my HVAC tech out last month, he asked if I had carbon monoxide detectors throughout the house (you betcha!). Do you have them throughout yours? Depending on where you live and/or when your house was built, they may not have been required by the building code. But they can save your life.

If you’re heading out of town for the holidays, please make sure you safeguard your house while you’re away. Coming home to a damaged or burgled house is a bad way to start the holidays.

I wish safe travels for anyone on the road next week, and a very happy holiday to my U.S. readers (and a rather belated one to my Canadian ones). Let’s do everything in moderation, and remember that time with family is even more important than eating, drinking, and football.

Many thanks for your continued readership. Have a great week, and Happy Thanksgiving!
